A total of 6 million tourists visited the country during the third quarter - due to the coronavirus restrictions, most of them were Czechs.

Despite the decline, the situation in the summer was better than in the second quarter when the number of visitors dropped by 83% year-on-year to 988,000.
According to the Czech Statistical Office, the number of tourists from abroad decreased by 68.5% to about one million. Due to the coronavirus, more Czechs decided to spend their holidays at home - so there were 17.2% more domestic tourists.
So far, this year's demand for stays in the Czech Republic has fallen by more than 40%. It is likely that the numbers will once again be worse in the fourth quarter as stricter measures have been in place since October due to the second wave of the pandemic. Hotels and other facilities can only accommodate people on business trips, not tourists.
Overall, the increase of bookings by Czechs has failed to offset the loss of foreign guests. And according to the experts, many hotels will have to close permanently because of the second lockdown.
