Deputy PM Jan Hamáček (ČSSD) will file a criminal complaint against the authors of the article concerning his trip to Moscow.
According to the article published by Seznam Zprávy yesterday, Hamáček was willing to cover up a scandal related to the 2014 attack on ammunition depots in Vrbětice in exchange for a million doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and a Biden/Putin summit in Prague. We wrote about it here. Hamáček denies this allegation and claims the authors of the article could have committed criminal offenses of defamation or spreading of alarming news.
In addition to filing a criminal complaint against the authors, Hamáček will also demand ten million crowns from the publisher of Seznam Zprávy. If successful, he wants to donate the money to a police and fire brigade foundation. According to its editor-in-chief Jiří Kubík, the Seznam Zprávy server is ready to prove the veracity of its findings in court.
Hamáček also thanked Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) for his support. Babiš said that he considered the information about Hamáček's plans to be nonsense. On the other hand, Hamáček demands an apology from the members of the opposition who have expressed outrage over the allegations.
On Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies discussed the scandal behind closed doors for about an hour and a half. The Prosecutor General Pavel Zeman who was also present at the meeting in Hamáček in mid-April told reporters he was ashamed at the debate as it was full of finger-pointing. The three invited directors of secret services (two of those were at the original meeting) did not get the floor. The MPs should return to the debate later today.
