Easter time - do you know the traditions?

Today is Maundy Thursday. According to Christian tradition, on this day, Jesus Christ last dined with the apostles.

Maundy Thursday (in Czech Green Thursday) is the first day to commemorate Christ's three days of suffering and resurrection. The tradition on Maundy Thursday is to eat mainly green dishes such as cabbage, spinach and peas. People believe that foods made from these ingredients will guarantee them good health. No one should argue or borrow anything on Maundy Thursday to avoid quarrels and a lack of money. The tradition that bells fly to Rome and are replaced by ratchets is inextricably linked with Green Thursday. The bells will ring again on White Saturday.

Two liturgical ceremonies are usually held on Maundy Thursday. In the morning, in the cathedrals, the priests meet with their bishops and renew their priestly vows. The evening ceremony expresses two main events. Jesus' farewell supper, during which he washes the apostles' feet and establishes the mystery of the Eucharist, as well as Jesus' prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane and his captivity.

This year, however, as a year ago, the celebrations of this holiday limited the government's measures against the spread of coronavirus. Attendance at services is limited and the leadership of the domestic Catholic Church, in view of the epidemic situation, has recommended omitting otherwise usual processions, and there will be no traditional foot washing ceremony on Maundy Thursday.
