Face masks rules could change mid-June

In the summer, Czechs could probably take off their face masks indoors - and people over the age of 35 should register for vaccines soon.

According to Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO), the decision about face masks might come in mid-June. People would still have to wear them in selected indoor areas - such as hospitals. It also depends on the development of the epidemic. On Friday, the government wants to address face mask rules in schools.

Right now, everyone over the age of 40 can register to get vaccinated. According to Babiš, the decision to open the registration for over 35-year-olds will be made on Sunday. In June, registrations should open for everybody.

There are currently not enough vaccines for vaccinations in companies to start, said Babiš. The priority is people registered at their GPs who have so far only been vaccinating mostly with the AstraZeneca vaccine. Due to shortages, they will now also get doses of the Moderna vaccine. This week, it will be 37,000 doses - instead of the promised 50,000, as vaccination centres need some for the second doses.
