First batch of Moderna vaccines

First 8,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine should get to Czechia on Tuesday, January 12 - they are heading to the Moravian-Silesian Region.

Hospitals in this region have been in trouble lately - lacking staff rather than free beds. On Tuesday, vaccinations in the Region's nursing homes should begin - but according to the governor of the Region Ivo Vondrák (ANO), only 30 to 40 percent of their employees want to get the jab.

According to Sunday's statement of PM Andrej Babiš (ANO), there were originally supposed to be 20,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine arriving to the Czech Republic on Monday. The country has ordered 80,000 doses monthly from January to March, and from April to September 278,000 doses per month.

By Saturday, around 40,000 people in the country had been vaccinated with a vaccine from the first manufacturer approved in the EU, Pfizer/BioNTech. Government's strategy gives highest priority to over 80-year-olds - on the other hand, young and healthy people can expect their turn in July at the earliest.
