Covid update

The number of new cases of Covid-19 dropped to 7874 on Thursday which is two-fifths less compared to last week. However, with lower numbers the number of tests performed is also declining.

On Monday, the Minister of Health, Jan Blatný (for ANO), will propose the extension the state of emergency by another 30 days. The state of emergency is declared until November 20, and would be then extended until December 20. But it must be approved by the deputies first.


Senate will discuss contributions to pensioners and cage farming

The Senate will discuss a one-off contribution 5,000 crowns to pensioners today. It was previously enforced in the Chamber of Deputies by the pro-government members. In the 81-member Senate, however, ANO and the CSSD have only nine representatives. The senators will also debate on amendments to the budget rules and the anti-money laundering law today. They should also approve an amendment to a ban cage farming law or increase fines for animal cruelty.


A project in Cambodia provides access to clean water

A local project supported by the Czech Republic provides access to water and renovated sanitation for more than 300 primary school pupils in the remote province of Banteay Meanchey. In the school area, new school gardens were created, where pupils learn to grow plants and various crops, and also new collection points for recycled waste, a covered parking lot for bicycles or paved sidewalks.

Volunteers help children get computers for distance learning

Although the schools have been closed for almost a month, many students still do not have a computer for distance learning. These are most often large families or single parent children or children in foster care. Volunteers are therefore organizing laptop collections. On Thursday, a package of computers was taken to the excluded site in Chanov housing estate.
