After the holidays, Czechs are spending more time at home and less in the workplace, Google data shows.

After the declaration of the state of emergency in October, people started to spend less time in restaurants, cafes, shopping centres, museums, libraries or cinemas - and more at home.

This changed at the beginning of December when the epidemiological situation was more favourable. For the first half of the month, the movement of people reached almost normal levels. When Christmas arrived, it decreased by more than 80%.

However, after the New Year, people are still staying at home more - their movement in the first week of January was 57% lower than normal. The decline is the most significant in Prague where it reaches 62%.

In the first week of this year, Czechs spent about 27% less time at the workplace. Compared to December, the decrease is one again notable - before Christmas, there were also short periods when people spent more time at work than before the pandemic. Once again, Prague's numbers are the highest - with 40% lower movement at the workplace and 20% increase of time spent at home.

Also during the holidays, time spent outdoors increased by 40% - this includes parks, squares or public gardens. However, in the first week of January, these statistics also returned below normal values.
