Starting Saturday, January 30, no foreigners are allowed to come to the Czech Republic - unless travelling for necessary reasons.

The government prohibited foreigners from travelling to the country with the exception of trips related to work or school, necessary visits of family or loved ones, weddings, funerals and doctor appointments.

While widespread checks at the borders are not planned, random ones will continue, according to the police presidium spokesperson Ondřej Moravčík. Before, the police checked only whether arriving people had a negative Covid-19 test - now they will also have to state their reason for travel. However, the current mobility at the Czech borders is not significant.

Until now, those arriving to the Czech Republic have had to follow the so-called traffic light system with different rules for countries with varying risk levels. Most European countries have been marked in red - indicating a high extent of coronavirus spread.
