The blood shortage in Brno Hospital is even worse than it was during the covid crisis - blood from donors covers about 20 percent of the usage, the rest must be bought by the hospital. Management of the St. Anna's Hospital is asking for more donations.

During the crisis there was a lower need of blood because some planned surgeries were postponed. Now, however, everything is going back to normal - except for the number of donors.
There are multiple reasons for it: during the holiday season many regular donors are on vacation. Holidays in a foreign country automatically means donors have to wait for a month before giving blood. The same applies when a donor gets a tick. Moreover, some of the donors still fear being infected by covid in hospitals. St. Anna's Hospital needs all types of blood.
