Covid update


The daily numbers of newly detected Covid-19 cases in the Czech Republic continue to decline in the week-on-week comparison. On Monday, tests revealed 6,865 positive cases, the least since the 14th of December. Compared to the previous Monday, it is about 1,400 less. According to current data on the website of the Ministry of Health, the total death balance rose to 26,222.


Vaccination



During the three months since the start of vaccination against Covid-19, over one million people in the Czech Republic have received at least the first dose of the vaccine. As of Monday evening, 464,836 people had completed vaccinations. According to the Minister of Health Jan Blatný (for ANO), two million people should receive at least one dose of the vaccine by the end of April. The minister estimates that 60 to 70 percent of the population will be vaccinated with at least one dose in June.


Closed shops on Easter holiday


In addition to Easter Monday, the government has decided to close all stores on Good Friday too - in order to slow down the epidemic. According to the Confederation of Trade and Tourism of the Czech Republic (SOCR), the ban on sales on Good Friday is meaningless and will only lead to a greater concentration of people in shops on Thursday and Saturday. Blocked traffic in the Suez Canal has affected Czech companies


The accident of the cargo ship Ever Given, which blocked traffic in the Suez Canal for almost a week, also affected Czech companies. Some of them import goods along this route, and their delayed deliveries may affect further production and sales in the country.


Four hundred cargo ships were waiting to pass through the blocked strait. They also were to transport goods for Czech companies in containers, for example tea, large electronics and furniture. However, it is still not possible to predict how much it affect stock availability, according to stores.


Prague lists 20 places and routes that residents can safely explore this spring



The Mayor of Prague has unveiled the launch of the “Safely Around Prague” platform

The City has compiled a list of 20 less-frequented places in Prague so that residents can safely see and experience something new.
