Covid update

On Monday, there were 4,239 new cases of Covid-19 in the Czech Republic, which is again more than a week ago. 666 more were infected than the previous Monday. The number of deaths since the beginning of the epidemic in March has exceeded 9,000. The index of the anti-epidemic system PES is again at 64 points today. The third day is thus above the limit of the fourth level of alert. In the Czech Republic, however, the third degree still applies and the ministry is not yet planning to move to a higher level. Police controls in restaurants and gyms

Inspections revealed crowded bars and restaurants, and in several cases breaches of closing times. According to the government, these transgressions could cause a further increase in coronavirus infections. Therefore, it again restricts the opening hours of companies and returns the ban on drinking alcohol in public. According to the Minister of the Interior Jan Hamáček (ČSSD), the police carry out thousands of inspections every day - from Friday to Sunday there were almost 30,000 of them.

Fines for political figures

According to Czech Television, former president Václav Klaus will receive a decision in the coming days from the Prague hygiene station on a fine of 3,000 crowns for not wearing a mask in public, for non-compliance with a government regulation related to the fight against a pandemic. The same sanction will be for the former Minister of Health Roman Prymula and chairman of the ANO parliamentary group Jaroslav Faltýnek for visiting a restaurant in Vyšehrad in Prague on the 21st of October and leaving it without a mask.

Debates over budget

The Communist Party has not yet agreed with the government to support the budget. After a meeting with the Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO), the chairman of the KSČM, Vojtěch Filip, said. The morning meeting opened a series of negotiations on the budget, that will also be discussed with the President Miloš Zeman. He invited Filip to the Prague Castle together with the chairman of the coalition party ČSSD Jan Hamáček. Both parties did not support the budget. The government's proposal is a budget with a 320 billion deficit, but it does not take into account the new proposed tax package.
