After eight weeks of coronavirus-related closure, Czech zoos are opening again - with attendance limited to 25% capacity.
For Prague Zoo, that means only 5,000 visitors will be admitted at the same time. In indoor pavilions, the number of people will be limited too - for example, a maximum of 36 guests will be allowed in the Feline and Reptile Pavilion. Gorilla Pavilion and Hippo House will be open as well - while Indonesian Jungle will stay closed due to the possibility of transmission of Covid-19 to its primates.
Smaller zoos - such as the ones in ZlÃn or Jihlava - said they do not mind limiting the number of visitors to 25% capacity. In winter months, fewer people visit the zoos naturally. In Jihlava, guests will be encouraged to keep a distance of "one tapir" from one another - that is about two metres.
People who are unable to visit the zoos but want to support them can generally do so through adopting or sponsoring the animals. For example, Prague Zoo has a new program where people can purchase a "meal voucher" for their favourite animal and buy them their daily ration. You can find the program here. Prices range from 50 to 600 crowns and the best sellers are meal vouchers for the Tasmanian devils.
